When it comes to laser acupuncture, one of the most common questions is whether the order in which you treat points makes a difference. The answer? Yes — it can matter, especially if you want to maximize therapeutic effects and maintain balanced energy flow. Scalar Wave Lasers use Pulsar Probes to easily, quickly and effectively treat acupoints.

Why Sequence Matters

Meridian Flow Direction
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) teaches that Qi flows in specific meridian pathways, often from the extremities toward the torso or head. Stimulating points in the right sequence can help “lead” energy in a desired direction.

Grounding & Stability
Starting with the lower body can help ground and stabilize the energy before working on upper-body or head points, preventing dizziness or discomfort.

Clearing First, Then Tonifying
Many practitioners use a sequence that first clears blockages (often distal points) before tonifying or nourishing areas closer to the torso.

1. Start with the feet and legs

  • Helps open the meridians and ground the body’s energy.
  • Calms excess yang or scattered energy.

2. Move to the hands and arms

  • Stimulates additional meridian entry/exit points.
  • Balances the upper limbs.

3. Address the torso, back, and abdomen

  • Home to many influential points for organs and emotional balancing.

4. Finish with the head, neck, and face

  • Clears the mind, improves mood, and benefits sensory organs.

Exceptions

  • Acute pain or injury – Start at the problem site first, then balance with distal points.
  • Emotional release sessions – Begin with upper points (head/heart) to address acute emotional states, then work downward to ground.
  • Auricular therapy – The ear is a microsystem of the whole body, so sequence is less critical. In the following book there are two advanced auricular therapy charts that reveal the most important points in the ears along with hundreds of acupoint protocols collected from over 300 acupuncturists. Laser-Specific Tip

Unlike needles, laser pulsar probes are gentle and non-invasive, so the “wrong” order is less likely to cause discomfort. Still, starting low and moving upward is generally considered best practice for both human and animal treatments — aligning with what many acupuncturists recommend for balance and grounding.
